ABSTRACT
Hamburg has had a major transformation at the urban level within the metropolitan region including the increase of pop-
ulation and the challenge to ensure an adequate supply for the housing market and the growing number of households.
The most important idea is a new concept of spatial development which is harnessing the potential of a growing city by
“more city in the city”. The vision is based on a growing port and key growth industries to strengthen Hamburg’s role
as engine of economic dynamic. The future space requirements, technical infrastructure and new container terminals
