Según Bill Gate, presentado por Oppenhaimer (2010, 13),
A Latinoamérica le falta una dosis de humildad, para darse cuenta
cual es la verdadera posición de sus grandes universidades y centros de
investigación en el contexto mundial. Los países de la región solo
podrán insertarse de lleno en la economía de la información del siglo
XXI, si hacen un buen diagnóstico de la realidad y dejan de creer que
así están bien.
Por otra parte, en el final del podcast semanal Scal-ability
(Dinero, 2019) siempre aparece la frase El futuro está aquí y
no es una extensión del pasado.
Estas dos frases que parecen resultados de la ciencia ficción
son hoy la certeza de un futuro que se volvió presente. Ese
es el reto, no solo de la ciencia, también de todos aquellos
comprometidos con la transferencia de ella a la sociedad y
sus estudiantes. Esto con la pretensión de convencerlos que
su futuro se garantiza si ellos pasan por las aulas de pregrado
y posgrado. Pero, el problema de la transferencia de
conocimiento a la sociedad y los estudiantes en últimas lo
resuelve el mercado. Así, las tasas de deserción y demás
indicadores muestran que el camino por alcanzar la
excelencia. Se ha hecho bastante, pero falta mucha
creatividad para alcanzarla
En respaldo de las anteriores aseveraciones se puede
argumentar que, si revisamos las cifras de la inversión en
creación de conocimiento la respuesta es falta mucho. Si
miramos cualquier otras cifras de manera comparativa en
referencia a los activos intangibles con los países avanzados
la respuesta sigue siendo falta mucho (Sanabria y otros,
2018). Y, la respuesta facilista de acusar el sistema, en el
sentido de gobierno, tampoco da soluciones concluyentes.
According to Bill Gate, presented by Oppenhaimer (2010,

Latin America lacks a dose of humility, to realize what the true
position of its great universities and research centers is in the global
context. The countries of the region can only insert themselves fully into
the information economy of the 21st century, if they make a good
diagnosis of reality and stop believing that they are doing well.
On the other hand, at the end of the weekly podcast Scal-
ability (Dinero, 2019) the phrase The future is here and it is not
an extension of the past, always appears.
These two phrases that seem like results of science fiction
are today the certainty of a future that became present. That
is the challenge, not only of science, but also of all those
committed to the knowledge transfer to society and its
students. This, with the pretension of convincing them that
their future is guaranteed if they pass through the
undergraduate and postgraduate classes. But, the problem
of transfer of knowledge to society and students is solved
by the market. Thus, dropout rates and other indicators
show a long way to reach the excellence. It has been done
a lot but it lacks a lot of creativity to achieve it.
In support of the previous assertion it can be argued that, if
we review the indicators of the investment in knowledge
creation, the answer is missing a lot. If we look at any other
figures comparatively in reference to intangible assets with
advanced countries, the answer is still a long way off
(Sanabria and others, 2018). And, the easy response to
accuse the system, in the sense of government, does not give
conclusive solutions either.
